A plane carrying 35 tons of weapons from North Korea, including surface-to-air missile launchers, has been stopped in Bangkok.

The cargo included explosives, rocket-propelled grenades, missile and rocket launchers, surface-to-air missile launchers, spare parts and other heavy weapons. The haul may be just a glimpse of what US investigators say is a billion-dollar annual arms smuggling racket that helps to finance North Korea's nuclear programme.

The official was quoted as saying the Thai investigating team considered Iran the likely destination because of the type of weaponry, including unassembled Taepodong-2 missile parts.
